JGE 95 – FBS Decreases 26 Points – Chicken Tikka Masala

Good Day,

Well this is the best decrease in my Supper Showdown thus far. My early morning blood sugar count dropped and registered 26 points down to 90 mg/dL.

Last night’s supper was a first attempt at Aarti Sequeira’s Chicken Tikka Masala, with a couple of my own twists. The twists were very, very minor. I didn’t have, with I thought I did, any tomato paste, and so I substituted Tomato Sofrito. Also instead of grilling, in the downpour of Tropical Storm Colin, I broiled the marinated Chicken thigh chunks.

Supper included –

Chicken Tikka Masala. Carb count ≈ 41 grams.

Basmati Rice. Carb count ≈ 40 grams.

Total carb count, somewhere in the vicinity of 81 grams.

Results –

FSB – 90 ↓ down 116 (Normal range 100 – 125 mg/dL)
A1c – 5.37 ≡ 5.37 (Normal range 5.7 – 6.4 %)
eAG – 107.3 ↓ down 107.4 (Normal range 117 – 137 mg/dL)

Oh yeah, this Chicken Tikka Masala was loaded with garlic and ginger, and some Thai chilies from the garden. It was a great supper for dealing with a harsh sinus infection. It helped to relieve some of the pressure, or so I was told.

Tune in tomorrow to Jim’s Gotta Eat to see the comparison of the results...and the set up a new Supper Showdown.

Food for thought – Try not to eat too late in the evening. Manage the amount of food that I eat. Do not over eat because my eyes see good food.

I am trying to control my diabetes with exercise and food. I have eliminated all diabetes medication. I am keeping my weight stable, and Jim's gotta eat.

Enjoy.

JGE 94 – FBS Net Decrease 17 Points – Frozen Leftovers

Good Day,

My early morning fasting blood sugar count has decreased a total of 17 points over these past 2 days. I recorded 99 mg/dL.

And I did not have any late night caffeine. I nixed the late night coffee and it appears that that may have to, in my truly unscientific analysis, been the cause of my 2 days’ hits and increases in my early morning sugar.

Last night for supper I decided that I would clean out those half-opened packages of frozen things sitting in the freezers. Supper included –

Vegetable Samosas. Carb count ≈ 56 grams.

Pork & Shrimp Egg Rolls. Carb count ≈ 48 grams.

Waffle Fries. Carb count ≈ 45 grams.

Iceberg Salad with Blueberry Balsamic Vinegar Dressing. Carb count ≈ 6 grams.

Yes I had a couple of scoops of Breyers Samoas ice cream. Carb count ≈ 34 grams.

This was a desperation supper.  I was desperate to eat, and I did not feel like spending anytime preparing and cooking anything.

Total carb count, somewhere in the vicinity of 189 grams.

Results –

FSB – 99 ↓ down 116 (Normal range 100 – 125 mg/dL)
A1c – 5.37 ≡ 5.37 (Normal range 5.7 – 6.4 %)
eAG – 107.3 ↓ down 107.4 (Normal range 117 – 137 mg/dL)

JGE 84 – FBS Increase 18 Points – Crispers’ Reuben Sandwich

Good Day,

This morning I recorded an increase of 18 to 126 mg/dL to my early morning blood sugar count.

Danger, Danger Will Robinson!. Blood sugar above the normal range.

Last night’s supper, (I didn’t cook), was Crispers’ cup of Kickin’ Crab Chowder and a Reuben Sandwich, and a bag of Kettle Chips.

I was frustrated and exhausted. I had to remove two 15+ years growth of golden bamboo clumps from the front yard. An anonymous someone reported an issue of line of sight to the Hillsborough County Code Enforcement Department.

I also had a can of San Pellegrino Blood Orange Soda.  And of course my bowl of ice-cream

Whole Reuben Sandwich. Carb count ≈ 72 grams.

Cup Kickin’ Crab Chowder. Carbs ≈ 17 grams.

Bag of Kettle Chips. Carbs ≈ 17 grams.

Can of San Pellegrino Blood Orange Soda. Carbs ≈ 33 grams.

And of course, Breyers Girl Scouts Samoas Ice Cream. Carbs ≈ 42 grams.

Total carbohydrate count last night approximates 181 grams.

And I love Reuben sandwiches...

Results –

FSB – 126 ↑ up 108 (Normal range 100 – 125 mg/dL)
A1c – 5.37 ↑ up 5.36 (Normal range 5.7 – 6.4 %)
eAG – 107.5 ↑ up 107.2 (Normal range 117 – 137 mg/dL)

Tune in tomorrow to Jim’s Gotta Eat to see the comparison of the results...and the set up a new Supper Showdown.

Food for thought – Exhaustion and frustration should not be a contributing factor for meal choice.

Enjoy.
